Acoustic Comedy West Hollywood Concert reviews
Chicago/Doobies -- Best Show in Years!
Starting out with Ballad of a Girl from Buchanan pretty much "set the tone" for Chicago, and it really "put it together" on this show. Despite having many, many hits from the past 40 years that they could have performed, the songs they ultimately chose to do were right on and in line with what the fans wanted to hear and came to see. Plus, as usual, Chicago's brass section and vocals were outstanding. Both bands did a great job with their performances.
I think they spent too much time performing their "new" material. Unfortunately, when the fans that follow these older groups go to one of their concerts, they really want to hear the "old favorites" rather than the new stuff. The fans missed a great performance last night.
Last night's concert ended their 2026 summer series, and anyone who is a Chicago or Doobie Brothers fan would have enjoyed it. Having seen previous Chicago shows over the past 20 years, I would say that this one was by far the best! I would pay twice the ticket price to see it again. My first experience with seeing Chicago was back in 1969 when they were the Chicago Transit Authority and the warm-up band for Jimi Hendrix -- they were superb then! This concert reminded me of that performance in many ways.
